H. 5037

A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, UPON THE PASSING OF JOHNNIE S. LIVINGSTON OF SUMTER COUNTY, AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER LARGE AND LOVING FAMILY AND HER MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Johnnie S. Livingston at the age of seventy-five on February 17, 2018; and

Whereas, born on December 9, 1942, and reared in Bellefontaine, Mississippi, Johnnie Livingston was a daughter of the late William Perry and Mary Russell Spraberry, and she was a longtime resident of Sumter; and

Whereas, she earned a bachelor's degree from Mississippi State College for Women and a post graduate degree from the University of South Carolina; and

Whereas, Johnnie Livingston served as a school teacher with devotion and excellence for more than forty years, most of which were in the Sumter County School system; and

Whereas, together with her beloved husband, Carlisle Vance Livingston, Jr., she reared two fine sons, Carlisle Vance Livingston III and Joshua Woods Livingston. They blessed her with the affection of three adoring grandchildren: Carlisle Vance Livingston IV, Madeline Lewis Livingston, and Mary Russell Livingston; and

Whereas, a dedicated member of St. Anne Catholic Church, Mrs. Livingston enjoyed spending countless hours with her grandchildren, volunteering for various organizations, knitting, and gardening in her retirement; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the life and legacy of Johnnie Livingston and for the example of selfless dedication and generosity she set for all who knew her. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow, upon the passing of Johnnie S. Livingston of Sumter County, and extend their deepest sympathy to her large and loving family and her many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Johnnie S. Livingston.
