 COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT, ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AND RECOGNIZING HIS
 DEDICATION AND COMMITMENT TO THE EDUCATION OF THE STUDENTS OF THE STATE OF
 SOUTH CAROLINA.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

HONORING DR. W. DUKE HUCKS, SUPERINTENDENT OF PICKENS COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT, ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AND RECOGNIZING HIS DEDICATION AND COMMITMENT TO THE EDUCATION OF THE STUDENTS OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, Dr. W. Duke Hucks has served as Superintendent of Pickens County School District from 1994 until the present and will retire June 30, 2000; and

Whereas, Dr. Hucks has served the State of South Carolina as an educator since 1961, first as a classroom teacher, then as principal at both Hemingway and Hartsville high schools; and

Whereas, under Dr. Hucks' leadership the Pickens County School District has achieved the distinction of being the largest district in the State to consistently exceed the national average SAT score; and

Whereas, Dr. Hucks' legacy of distinguished service has created a new standard for excellence and includes the "Distinguished Service in Administration and Supervision Award" for the Clemson Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa, board member of the South Carolina Association of School Superintendents, and the South Carolina Association of School Administrators where he served as President; and

Whereas, his strong faith and altruistic spirit is reflected in his dedicated service through numerous activities which have benefited the citizens of South Carolina; and

Whereas, Dr. Hucks also found time to participate in community affairs, serving as administrative board member of First United Methodist Church of Easley, President of Pickens-Liberty Lions Club and Easley Rotary Club, and board member of Pickens County United Way and Salvation Army; and

Whereas, he and his wife Angie look forward to a quieter pace and spending more time with their children, Andrea, a graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina, and Billy, a Clemson graduate. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate Dr. W. Duke Hucks on his retirement after more than thirty-five years in the field of public education, gratefully acknowledge his dedication and commitment, and wish him a well-deserved and relaxing retirement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. W. Duke Hucks.
