 GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO LIONS CLUBS INTERNATIONAL FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING
 HUMANITARIAN SERVICE TO MANKIND OVER MANY YEARS, TO THE LIONS CLUBS
 INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION FOR THEIR GENEROSITY IN APPROVING A TWO HUNDRED
 THOUSAND DOLLAR CORE 4 GRANT TO EXPAND THE LIONS-QUEST PROGRAM AND CHARACTER
 EDUCATION IN MULTIPLE DISTRICT 32, WHICH IS COMPRISED OF THE STATE OF SOUTH
 CAROLINA, IN COOPERATION WITH THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, AND
 TO PUBLICLY RECOGNIZE THE HONORABLE JAMES E. "JIM" ERVIN, OF ALBANY, GEORGIA,
 PRESIDENT, LIONS CLUBS INTERNATIONAL, AND CONGRATULATE THIS OUTSTANDING
 INDIVIDUAL FOR HIS EXEMPLARY SERVICE AS A FULL-TIME LION AND AS PRESIDENT OF

TO EXPRESS THE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO LIONS CLUBS INTERNATIONAL FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING HUMANITARIAN SERVICE TO MANKIND OVER MANY YEARS, TO THE LIONS CLUBS INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION FOR THEIR GENEROSITY IN APPROVING A TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLAR CORE 4 GRANT TO EXPAND THE LIONS-QUEST PROGRAM AND CHARACTER EDUCATION IN MULTIPLE DISTRICT 32, WHICH IS COMPRISED OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA, IN COOPERATION WITH THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, AND TO PUBLICLY RECOGNIZE THE HONORABLE JAMES E. "JIM" ERVIN, OF ALBANY, GEORGIA, PRESIDENT, LIONS CLUBS INTERNATIONAL, AND CONGRATULATE THIS OUTSTANDING INDIVIDUAL FOR HIS EXEMPLARY SERVICE AS A FULL-TIME LION AND AS PRESIDENT OF LIONS CLUBS INTERNATIONAL ON THE OCCASION OF HIS VISIT TO THE PALMETTO STATE.

Whereas, Lions Clubs International is an association of civilian service clubs that foster a spirit of "generous consideration" among peoples of the world, and promote good government, good citizenship, good character, and an active interest in civic, social, commercial, and moral welfare; and

Whereas, headquartered in Oakbrook, Illinois, Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service organization with almost one and one-half million members in over forty-four thousand clubs in one hundred eighty-five countries; and the 1999-2000 President, Lions Clubs International, is the Honorable James E. "Jim" Ervin, of Albany, Georgia, a civic leader and successful businessman who has unselfishly divested himself of all business interests in order to become a full-time Lion; and

Whereas, Lions Clubs activities include general community welfare projects, aid to the blind, and promotion and knowledge of the United Nations; Lions-Quest is the program wherein Lions Clubs around the world sponsor drug abuse and violence prevention curricula in community schools, and the program is one of the most successful programs in the world for teaching Skills for Growing, Skills for Adolescence, and Skills for Action, and for reaching young people to help them reject drugs, alcohol, and tobacco, develop good character, and adopt healthy positive lifestyles; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are pleased to learn that the Board of Trustees of Lions Clubs International Foundation recently approved a two hundred thousand dollar Core 4 grant to expand the Lions-Quest program in Multiple District 32, which is comprised of the State of South Carolina, in cooperation with the South Carolina Department of Education; and

Whereas, during his term as President, Mr. Ervin has and will spend many hours representing this great organization as he travels across the United States and around the world; and, on May 31, 2000, President Ervin will visit South Carolina to present a grant for two hundred thousand dollars for Lions-Quest in Multiple District 32, to be used in cooperation with the South Carolina Department of Education; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to express their appreciation to Lions Clubs International for their outstanding humanitarian service to mankind over many years, to the Lions Clubs International Foundation for its generosity in approving a two hundred thousand dollar Core 4 grant to expand the Lions-Quest program and character education in Multiple District 32, which is comprised of the State of South Carolina, in cooperation with the South Carolina Department of Education, and to publicly recognize the Honorable James E. "Jim" Ervin, of Albany, Georgia, President, Lions Clubs International, and congratulate this outstanding individual for his exemplary service as a full-time Lion and as President of Lions Clubs International on the occasion of his visit to the Palmetto State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, express their appreciation to Lions Clubs International for their outstanding humanitarian service to mankind over many years, to the Lions Clubs International Foundation for its generosity in approving a two hundred thousand dollar Core 4 grant to expand the Lions-Quest program and character education in Multiple District 32, which is comprised of the State of South Carolina, in cooperation with the South Carolina Department of Education, and publicly recognize the Honorable James E. "Jim" Ervin, of Albany, Georgia, President, Lions Clubs International, and congratulate this outstanding individual for his exemplary service as a full-time Lion and as President of Lions Clubs International on the occasion of his visit to the Palmetto State.
