S*0598 Resolution, By Wilson, Ryberg, Setzler and Bauer
A SENATE RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES OF THE
MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE TO MR. GEORGE LEROY, DIRECTOR OF THE
LEXINGTON COUNTY VETERANS AFFAIRS OFFICE, ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT.

04/19/01 Senate Introduced and adopted SJ-3

A SENATE RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE TO MR. GEORGE LEROY, DIRECTOR OF THE LEXINGTON COUNTY VETERANS AFFAIRS OFFICE, ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT.

Whereas, the members of the Senate note that Mr. George W. Leroy, Director of the Lexington County Veterans Affairs Office, is retiring after serving in that vital position since 1985; and

Whereas, while serving in that capacity he was named the Outstanding South Carolina Veteran Affairs Officer of the Year for 1992-93 by the Disabled American Veterans, Department of South Carolina; and

Whereas, his own military service, as an infantry rifleman from 1944 to 1946, seeing action in Italy in the bitterly fought campaigns for Rome, the Northern Apennines, and the Po Valley was the beginning of his interest and determination to serve the cause of America's veterans as evidenced by his lifetime membership and high offices in the American Legion, including service as Post Commander of West Columbia Post 79 and as District Commander of District 10, and member and officer of Palmetto Grande Voiture #1211 of the 40/8 Society, as a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans; and

Whereas, in other community service he has been an active mason, with a lifetime membership in the Sinclair Masonic Lodge #154, holding numerous Masonic offices, and as a member of the Jamil Temple of the Shriners of South Carolina, as chairman of the West Columbia Municipal Election Commission, as a member of the National Exchange Club of Columbia, the Optimist Club, and the South Carolina Lions Club, and as a member of the executive committee of the Veterans Advisory Volunteer Services Committee at the W. J. Bryan Dorn Veteran's Hospital; and

Whereas, in entering into a much earned and deserved retirement, Mr. Leroy will be able to spend more time in the company of his beloved wife of fifty-two years, Vi Gibson Leroy, their three daughters, and nine grandchildren; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the Senate to pause in their deliberations so that they might honor this distinguished son of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, express congratulations and best wishes to Mr. George Leroy, Director of the Lexington County Veterans Affairs Office, on the occasion of his retirement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Leroy.
