 HUNDRED FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY AND TO DECLARE AND ACKNOWLEDGE WITH GREAT PRIDE
 THAT THE YMCA OF GREENVILLE IS SYMBOLIC OF THE ATTRIBUTES OF THE NATIONAL
 ORGANIZATION IN THE IMPACT IT HAS HAD ON THE GREENVILLE COMMUNITY.

TO RECOGNIZE THE YMCA ON THE CELEBRATION OF ITS ONE HUNDRED FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY AND TO DECLARE AND ACKNOWLEDGE WITH GREAT PRIDE THAT THE YMCA OF GREENVILLE IS SYMBOLIC OF THE ATTRIBUTES OF THE NATIONAL ORGANIZATION IN THE IMPACT IT HAS HAD ON THE GREENVILLE COMMUNITY.

Whereas, the General Assembly takes great delight in celebrating the one hundred fiftieth anniversary of the YMCA movement in the Unites States and in recognizing the YMCA of Greenville, which has had a positive impact in the community; and

Whereas, the YMCA is dedicated to building strong children, strong families, and strong communities while serving people of all ages, incomes, and abilities through a wide variety of programs and services designed to meet changing needs. The YMCA has touched the lives of virtually all Americans, from pioneering, camping, public libraries, night schools, group swimming lessons and lifesaving, and teaching English as a second language to inventing basketball and volleyball; and

Whereas, the YMCA movement in the United States, which has a long history of partnership with other community organizations, such as schools, hospitals, and police departments, serves nearly eighteen million members each year and is volunteer-founded, volunteer-based, and volunteer-led; and

Whereas, the one hundred fiftieth anniversary of the YMCA movement will draw special attention to the distinguished history of the organization and to the benefits that the people of South Carolina have enjoyed as a result of the proud tradition of this organization; and

Whereas, the YMCA of Greenville is part of a national movement that serves nine million children each year, that is the nation's largest child care provider, that currently serves one in ten teens, and that incorporates the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility into all of its programs. The YMCA provides a fun, affordable place for families to spend time together, as well as social programs for seniors, and healthy programs for everyone in the community; and

Whereas, the YMCA of Greenville is one of this State's most dynamic, sponsoring a wide range of activities for the people of Greenville and the State of South Carolina including Camp Greenville, its Youth in Government programs, and countless other programs that benefit so many; and

Whereas, the YMCA of Greenville truly lives by its mission every day, "To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all"; and

Whereas, the South Carolina General Assembly is proud to recognize and acknowledge the positive impact of the YMCA across America, and, the YMCA of Greenville in the Greenville community on the occasion of the organization's one hundred fiftieth anniversary. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize the YMCA on the celebration of its one hundred fiftieth anniversary and acknowledge and declare with great pride that the YMCA of Greenville is symbolic of the attributes of the national organization in the impact it has had on the Greenville community.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the YMCA of Greenville.
