A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE GAIL B. INGRAM OF CHERAW HIGH SCHOOL FOR BEING SELECTED AS THE NATIONAL HISTORY DAY TEACHER OF THE YEAR FOR 2001-2002 AND TO WISH HER GOOD HEALTH AND HAPPINESS IN HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, Gail B. Ingram, a teacher at Cheraw High School, received the Richard T. Farrell Teacher of Merit Award for being selected as the National History Day Teacher of the Year for 2001-2002, at a national awards ceremony held at the University of Maryland; and
Whereas, this prestigious award is given to one teacher in the United States for outstanding success in teaching history; and
Whereas, Ms. Ingram was recognized for her dedication to the National History Day program and for her success at improving history education at Cheraw High School; and
Whereas, National History Day is a year-long critically acclaimed education program that encourages young people to explore historical topics related to an annual theme; and
Whereas, students compete in the district and then the state competition and the winners go on to the National History Day Competition. Ms. Ingram's students have earned district, state, and even several national awards in the competition; and
Whereas, for the past seven years, Gail B. Ingram and art teacher, Jennifer Rayfield, have helped their students create a Black History Month exhibit at the Cheraw Parks and Recreation art gallery; and
Whereas, they have received a total of sixty thousand dollars in grants from the South Carolina State Department of Education to create the exhibits, and in October 2001, they earned a Dorothy Mullen Arts & Humanities Award from the National Recreation and Parks Association from the town of Cheraw; and
Whereas, Ms. Ingram has also twice received an award from the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board and the United States Department of Education to participate in the Fulbright-Hays Seminars Abroad Program. Her first trip in 1998 was to Japan, and this summer she will spend six weeks in Thailand and Vietnam; and
Whereas, the General Assembly is proud to recognize Gail B. Ingram for her creativity in the classroom and her commitment to education. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and congratulate Gail B. Ingram of Cheraw High School for being selected as the National History Day Teacher of the Year for 2001-2002 and wish her good health and happiness in her future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Gail B. Ingram of Cheraw High School.
