A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE HONORABLE MARION C. SMITH OF FAIRFIELD COUNTY FOR HIS FOURTEEN YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE AS A MAGISTRATE AND UPON HIS RETIREMENT WISH HIM GOOD HEALTH AND HAPPINESS.

Whereas, Judge Smith began his term as county magistrate for Fairfield County in July 1985. He provided an invaluable service to the citizens of Fairfield County and South Carolina for fourteen years as a magistrate judge, serving with the utmost honor and integrity; and

Whereas, Judge Smith treated all who came before him with fairness and respect. He held dear the protection of individual rights and liberties, while he also strived to protect and improve the quality of life in those neighborhoods and communities he served. Judge Smith will be sorely missed for his prudent counsel and trusted advice; and

Whereas, Judge Smith not only served his county and this State as a wise and caring judge, but he also gave of his time, leadership, and compassion, serving as the Director of the Fairfield County Substance Abuse Commission; and

Whereas, Judge Smith will carry his zest for life and his love for family and friends into his retirement, as his days will be full spending time with his family, tending his yard, and enjoying traveling; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are pleased to have the opportunity to recognize the Honorable Marion C. Smith for his distinguished service as a magistrate judge. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, express appreciation to the Honorable Marion C. Smith of Fairfield County for his fourteen years of dedicated service as a magistrate and upon his retirement wish him good health and happiness.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Judge Marion C. Smith.
