Whereas, Ms. Audé began her outstanding career immediately after she graduated, in 1978, doing general assignment reporting and weekend weather for WIS news; and

Whereas, her talent and popularity quickly propelled her to the anchor desk where she has been "the face of WIS news" since 1982, covering local and national news as well as conducting interviews, including one with First Lady Laura Bush; and

Whereas, her career at WIS spanned four decades, and included momentous events such as Hurricane Hugo, seven Presidential elections, the September 11th terrorist attacks, and the funeral of Senator Strom Thurmond; and

Whereas, Ms. Audé has received dozens of awards for her exceptional work and journalistic integrity both as an anchor and as a reporter. Among them, Newscaster of the Year from the South Carolina Broadcasters Association, and recently, that same organization's most prestigious Master's Award for Lifetime Achievement. The WIS 6:00 pm newscast, co-anchored by Ms. Audé, won Emmys in 2003 and 2005 for Best Newscast, and in 1998, she was named to the University of South Carolina College of Journalism's "Diamond Circle," joining a national group of esteemed individuals chosen for outstanding contributions to their field; and

Whereas, Ms. Audé was honored by the Governor's Commission on Women with the 2001 Woman of Achievement Award, presented for "remarkable accomplishments and commitment to our State;" and

Whereas, her inspiring life and accomplishments have been the subject of stories in Good Housekeeping and Ms magazines, as well as on CNN and Lifetime cable channels; and

Whereas, Ms. Audé is also known for her involvement in the community as a Meals-on-Wheels volunteer, member of the Greater Columbia Community Relations Council's Luncheon Club, the Girl Scouts of America, and frequently requested speaker, all of which have garnered her numerous humanitarian awards; and

Whereas, she says she looks back fondly over her wonderful career, having had the opportunity to meet many interesting people and to cover fascinating events; and

Whereas, one of her proudest moments on air was when she was chosen to participate in carrying the 1996 Olympic torch, attached to her wheelchair as she propelled herself through the streets of Columbia; and

Whereas, she has been not only a pioneer for women in journalism, but also a role model for people with disabilities who aspire to do great things; and

Whereas, Ms. Audé says she will spend her time with her daughter Blythe and focusing on reenergizing before beginning the next chapter of her life. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:
