VERSIONS OF THIS BILL

5/31/2006

H. 5253

A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO OFFER THE WARMEST CONGRATULATIONS TO MR. AND MRS. MINOR FRANKLIN CAUTHEN OF COLUMBIA ON THE OCCASION OF THEIR FIFTIETH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY AND TO WISH THEM CONTINUED HAPPINESS IN THE YEARS TO COME.

Whereas, Minor Franklin Cauthen and Alma Davis Cauthen were united in holy matrimony at Oakland Baptist Church in Rock Hill, South Carolina on December 18, 1955. On Sunday, December 18, 2005, the couple celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary; and

Whereas, this milestone in their lives is a tribute to their devotion to each other, a devotion that has more than merely endured, but which has grown over the decades; and

Whereas, Mrs. Cauthen is the daughter of the late William Anderson Davis and the late Lucy Moretz Davis of Rock Hill, while Mr. Cauthen is the son of the late Minor Columbus Cauthen and the Edna McLean Cauthen of Rock Hill; and

Whereas, a 1953 graduate of Clemson University, Mr. Cauthen was commissioned in the United States Army and rose to the rank of First Lieutenant. After bravely serving his country he embarked on a career in textile management and became the owner of a small business, retiring as a textile manager in 2000; and

Whereas, Mrs. Cauthen attended Mars Hill College and graduated from Wintrop University in 1954 with a degree in music. She has been a faithful choir member of every church she has ever attended and retired recently from the Shandon Baptist Church Choir; and

Whereas, though Mrs. Cauthen was an educator for some time, her crowning achievements are her three sons, Mark, David, and John, whom she reared while serving as a homemaker. Together, Mr. and Mrs. Cauthen take enormous pride in the successes their children have become, a tribute to the Cauthen's patience, guidance, and abiding love; and

Whereas, devoted to their faith, Mr. and Mrs. Cauthen are steadfast members of Shandon Baptist Church, where they are both involved in the church's outreach ministry; and

Whereas, Mr. and Mrs. Cauthen enjoy their retirement and spend time traveling and visiting friends and their children. While Mrs. Cauthen gives of her time as a volunteer at Heartworks Ministries, Mr. Cauthen stays busy managing real estate investments; and

Whereas, in a world in which an ever-increasing change of pace seems to be the only constant, it is truly refreshing to be able to recognize and join in the celebration of a couple whose lives, faith, and steadfast loyalty and devotion toward each other, their children, their family, and their friends are examples of what is best in our society; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for members of the House of Representatives to pause in their deliberations so they may congratulate and honor this special couple on the occasion of their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, offer the warmest congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Minor Franklin Cauthen of Columbia on the occasion of their fiftieth wedding anniversary and wish them continued happiness in the years to come.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Mr. and Mrs. Cauthen.
