H. 3259

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND G. CLEVE PILOT, DEAN OF STUDENTS AT SAMUEL A. HEYWARD CAREER & TECHNOLOGY CENTER IN RICHLAND COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT ONE, FOR HIS COMMITMENT TO PROVIDING QUALITY EDUCATION FOR THE CHILDREN OF SOUTH CAROLINA, AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM UPON ACHIEVING NATIONAL BOARD TEACHER CERTIFICATION IN NOVEMBER 2008.

Whereas, it is with distinct pleasure that the South Carolina General Assembly recognizes educators who approach their field with passion, creativity, and dedication, along with appropriate academic preparation; and

Whereas, in the roll call of such South Carolina educators, G. Cleve Pilot, dean of students at Samuel A. Heyward Career & Technology Center in Richland County School District One, stands high as one who has achieved National Board Teacher Certification in the area of school counseling; and

Whereas, the path to National Board Teacher Certification requires an extensive amount of paperwork to document the quality of teaching, two unedited videos showing two different lessons being taught, and successful completion of a written test, in addition to the time a candidate must spend carrying out his or her usual teaching duties; and

Whereas, in preparation for his life's work, Mr. Pilot earned a bachelor's degree in business management at South Carolina State University, followed by master's degrees in rehabilitation counseling and guidance and counseling, and the Ed.S. degree in education administration, all completed at the same institution. He is now a doctoral candidate at South Carolina State University; and

Whereas, a ten-year veteran in the field of education and presently a Career and Technology Education (CATE) teacher, Mr. Pilot has served for six years in Richland One; and

Whereas, his able leadership helps ensure an environment ripe for learning, where students can gain a firm educational foundation and grow in self-confidence and respect for others under the mentorship of a caring teacher; and

Whereas, the General Assembly is pleased to honor this exceptional educator, G. Cleve Pilot, and the members join with his colleagues, students, family, and friends in extending best wishes for continued success in his career. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, commend G. Cleve Pilot, dean of students at Samuel A. Heyward Career & Technology Center in Richland County School District One, for his commitment to providing quality education for the children of South Carolina, and congratulate him upon achieving National Board Teacher Certification in November 2008.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Pilot.
