COUNTY, ON THE OCCASION OF HIS NINETIETH BIRTHDAY, AND TO WISH HIM A JOYOUS
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND MUCH HAPPINESS IN THE DAYS AHEAD.

A HOUSE RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE HAROLD MADISON ROBERTSON OF COLLETON COUNTY, ON THE OCCASION OF HIS NINETIETH BIRTHDAY, AND TO WISH HIM A JOYOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND MUCH HAPPINESS IN THE DAYS AHEAD.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is delighted to learn that Harold Madison Robertson of Colleton County will celebrate his ninetieth birthday on May 10, 2013; and
Whereas, born on May 10, 1923, in Smoaks and reared in Green Pond, he is the son of Getha M. and Dola W. Robertson, and he graduated from Walterboro High School; and
Whereas, after graduation he served an electrical apprenticeship with the United States Navy until 1943 when he entered the United States Army Corps of Engineers as an electrical instructor serving in the Army Air Borne Engineers during World War II; and
Whereas, following his discharge from the Corps of Engineers, Mr. Robertson continued his electrical career in civilian life as founder and president of Robertson Wholesale Electrical Supply and later as president of Robertson Corporation of Walterboro; and
Whereas, highly respected by his peers, Mr. Robertson served as the Fourteenth Judicial Circuit's Highway commissioner from 1966 to 1970, serving a year as vice chairman of the commission. In 1971, he was appointed to the South Carolina Probation, Pardon, and Parole Board and later that year was appointed to the South Carolina Public Service Authority, known as Santee Cooper, where he served under several governors. During his twenty years of service on the board, he never missed a meeting; and
Whereas, in 1992, Mr. Robertson was honored by a concurrent resolution for his distinguished service to the South Carolina Public Service Authority, Santee Cooper; and
Whereas, a 32nd degree Mason, he served as past president of the Coastal Shrine Club; past president of the Walterboro Chamber of Commerce; past secretary and treasurer of the Low Country Regional Planning Commission; past secretary of the Low Country Resources Conservation and Development Commission, where he was named Commissioner of the Year; Committee of 100 Development Board; Charter Member No. 2 of the Walterboro Elks Lodge; South Carolina Democratic Party Hall of Fame inductee; former member of the Finance Committee and Advisory Board of the First National Bank of South Carolina; and a founder and board member of the Bank of Walterboro; and
Whereas, together with his beloved wife of seventy years, the late Sarah Sweat Robertson, he reared a fine daughter, Pamela Jean, who blessed them with two granddaughters, Pamela Paige and Sarah Ashlan; a son-in-law, Christian; a great-grandson, Matthew Parker, and a soon-to-arrive great-granddaughter, Sarah Mackenzie; and
Whereas, an avid outdoorsman, Mr. Robertson has been dubbed "the gentleman farmer from Green Pond." He enjoys hunting and fishing but now spends most of his free time with his great-grandson, Parker; and
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to honor this man of strong faith, family values, hard work, and honesty, "a southern gentleman and a man of his word," at the celebration of his ninetieth birthday. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Harold Madison Robertson of Colleton County, on the occasion of his ninetieth birthday, and wish him a joyous birthday celebration and much happiness in the days ahead.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Harold Madison Robertson.
