Summary: Public defender and employees considered public employees
    A BILL TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 17-3-75 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT WITH THE APPROVAL OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE COUNTY DEFENDER CORPORATION AND THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE COUNTY A PUBLIC DEFENDER AND EMPLOYEES IN THE OFFICE OF PUBLIC DEFENDER ARE DEEMED COUNTY EMPLOYEES, AND THE OFFICE OF PUBLIC DEFENDER IS DEEMED A COUNTY GOVERNMENT AGENCY, AND TO PROVIDE THAT THIS DESIGNATION MUST NOT BE CONSTRUED AS DIMINISHING THE AUTHORITY OR THE AUTONOMY OF THE COUNTY DEFENDER CORPORATION.
