 SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY UPON THE DEATH OF MRS. MARTHA ELIZABETH
 CHAMBERS MELTON KOLLOCK, OF CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST
 SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY UPON THE DEATH OF MRS. MARTHA ELIZABETH CHAMBERS MELTON KOLLOCK, OF CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Mrs. Martha Elizabeth Chambers Melton Kollock, of Chesterfield County, on May 30, 2007; and

Whereas, the daughter of the late James Chambers and Henrietta C. Smith, Martha M. Kollock was born on October 22, 1938, in Chesterfield and was a graduate of the historic Gary High School of that town; and

Whereas, a beloved mother, Mrs. Kollock was devoted to her family, friends, community, and civil advocacy. She was a life member of the NAACP, where she served on the executive board as chair for the Women of the Year and the State Conference Annual Freedom Fund Dinner and rarely missed a state, regional, or national meeting of the NAACP. In addition, she was active at the local level, serving as an executive committee member and as vice president; and

Whereas, for many years active in the Chesterfield County Democratic Party, she was elected to the State Democratic Party Executive Committee, where she served two terms and was selected as a delegate to the National Democratic Convention in Boston. She was also appointed to the Chesterfield County Election Commission by the legislative delegation; and

Whereas, Mrs. Kollock volunteered for many community activities, such as the Community Action Agency, the PTA, and various agencies that supported the wellness of individuals within the community; and

Whereas, further serving the community through her church, Grandview Presbyterian, she fulfilled the duties of deacon, elder, and president of Presbyterian Women and numerous other committees, and she was for many years Worthy Matron of the Forest Dale Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star 379; and

Whereas, she leaves two daughters, Linda Melton Morman and Marietta Melton, and two sons, Rufus Melton and Victor Melton, as well as eight grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends; and

Whereas, Mrs. Kollock touched the lives of many in her community and beyond and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Mrs. Martha Elizabeth Chambers Melton Kollock, of Chesterfield County, and extend the deepest sympathy to her family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Marietta Melton for the family.
