 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY
 UPON THE DEATH OF MR. E.M. O'TUEL, JR., OF BENNETTSVILLE, AND TO EXTEND THE
 DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY UPON THE DEATH OF MR. E.M. O'TUEL, JR., OF BENNETTSVILLE, AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Mr. E.M. O'Tuel, Jr., of Bennettsville, on March 28, 2007; and

Whereas, born December 9, 1916, in Marlboro County, he was the son of the late Ellis Michael O'Tuel, Sr., and Ollie Odom O'Tuel. A graduate of Fletcher Memorial High School, he attended The Citadel. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he served in numerous leadership positions, and he was owner of several businesses, including Marlboro Cotton Warehouse, Inc., and Southern Gin and Fertilizer Company. He also had extensive farming interests in Marlboro and Scotland counties; and

Whereas, a man with a servant's heart, he was a delegate to the National Cotton Council and was a member of the Farm Bureau and the Southeastern Ginners Association. From 1947 to 1949, he served in the South Carolina House of Representatives. In addition, as a member of the Bennettsville Rotary Club, he served as president and secretary and had perfect attendance for more than thirty years of his forty-nine years of membership. His fellow members named him a Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International; and

Whereas, in further giving of himself, he served on the Marlboro General Hospital Board of Trustees and was instrumental in the creation of Marlboro Park Hospital, also serving as chair of Marlboro Hospital Charities and on the board of the First National Bank of Bennettsville and the advisory board of Wachovia Bank; and

Whereas, his beloved wife, Cecile, having predeceased him, he leaves two sons, E. Michael O'Tuel III and C. Douglas O'Tuel; a daughter, Marilyn O. Jordan; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and other relatives. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Mr. E.M. O'Tuel, Jr., of Bennettsville, and extend the deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Mr. E.M. O'Tuel, Jr.
