AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE CERTAIN COMPENSATION FOR THE MEMBERS OF THE
ANDERSON COUNTY FIRE PROTECTION COMMISSION, TO PROVIDE FOR THE MILLAGE
WHICH IS AUTHORIZED TO BE LEVIED FOR THE OPERATIONS OF THE COMMISSION,
TO FURTHER PROVIDE FOR THE SERVICE AREA OF THE COMMISSION EFFECTIVE
WITH THE YEAR 1991, AND TO PROVIDE FOR THE MANNER IN WHICH MONIES
COLLECTED FOR THE PURPOSES OF THE COMMISSION MAY BE EXPENDED.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
Authorized millage, compensation of members, service area, expenditure
of funds
SECTION 1. (A) The Anderson County Fire Protection Commission, by
resolution, may provide for compensation and other benefits, including
insurance benefits, for members of the commission. Mileage allowance
may not exceed the amounts authorized for members of state boards,
committees, and commissions. Insurance benefits may not exceed those
provided for state employees. Per diem may not exceed thirty-five
dollars a day.
(B) Pursuant to the results of a favorable referendum heretofore
conducted pursuant to Section 6-11-273 of the 1976 Code, the
commission, beginning with the year 1988, may annually levy a tax not
to exceed six mills on all taxable property in its service area for
the operation of the commission. The service area of the commission
for this purpose for the years 1988, 1989, and 1990 consists of the
entire area of the county of Anderson except for those areas within
the municipal limits of the cities of Anderson, Belton, Honea Path,
Williamston, Pelzer, and that portion of Piedmont that comprises old
School District No. 23. Effective with the year 1991 and thereafter,
the area within the town of Pelzer is also part of the service area of
the commission.
(C) Effective July 1, 1990, all monies assessed and collected
pursuant to subsection (B) for the purposes of the commission must be
paid out by the Anderson County Treasurer upon the warrant of the
chairman or vice-chairman of the commission and the treasurer of the
commission.

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
