death of Frances Riley Richardson of Oconee County and to extend its sympathy
to her family and many friends.

A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
TO EXPRESS THE SORROW OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY ON
THE DEATH OF FRANCES RILEY RICHARDSON OF OCONEE
COUNTY AND TO EXTEND ITS SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY
AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, Frances Riley Richardson of Oconee County died March 1,
1992, at the age of ninety-seven; and
Whereas, she was born in Greenville, South Carolina, to the late
Reverend William Melzor and Nora King Riley; and
Whereas, Mrs. Richardson was the wife of the late Kenneth Prince
Richardson, Sr.; and
Whereas, Frances Richardson was a graduate of Winthrop College and
had been a dedicated teacher at Salem Elementary School; and
Whereas, she was also retired from an extensive, successful business
career: She was formerly the owner and editor of the Seneca
Journal, President of Seneca Food Processing Plant, and an owner
with her husband of Richardson Theatres; and
Whereas, Mrs. Richardson was active in many areas of service to her
community: she served as a magistrate and chairman of the board of
trustees of Seneca Area Schools, was a member of the DAR, an
honorary member of the Seneca Pilot Club, and a member of the Once
A Week Club; and
Whereas, she was a loyal and faithful member of Seneca Baptist Church
where she taught Sunday School for sixty years; and
Whereas, Mrs. Richardson also had many other talents, among them her
gift as a writer. She wrote the county song "Beautiful
Oconee" and a regular column in the Seneca Journal,
"View from an Oconee Hilltop"; and
Whereas, Frances Richardson was recognized for her many talents and
contributions by being selected several times as Woman of the Year; and
Whereas, she was a devoted wife and mother of four sons and a
daughter; she had fourteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and
one great-great grandchild; and
Whereas, she was well-respected and admired by those who knew her
and will be missed by all; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly wish to express their
sorrow at the death of such a great lady and citizen of this State. Now,
therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly express sorrow on the death
of Frances Riley Richardson of Oconee County and extend their
sympathy to her family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the
family of Mrs. Richardson.
