VERSIONS OF THIS BILL

5/3/2007

H. 4032

A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND THE OLDE ENGLISH DISTRICT TOURISM COMMISSION AND RECOGNIZE ITS TWENTY-FIVE YEAR COMMITMENT TO PROMOTING TOURISM AND HISTORY IN CHESTER, CHESTERFIELD, FAIRFIELD, KERSHAW, LANCASTER, UNION, AND YORK COUNTIES WHICH GREATLY CONTRIBUTES TO MAKING TOURISM THE NUMBER ONE INDUSTRY IN THE STATE.

Whereas, the Olde English District Tourism Commission was established on May 10, 1982, by the South Carolina General Assembly for the purpose of instituting and operating programs to improve, increase, and otherwise enhance tourism, recreation, and development in the counties of Chester, Chesterfield, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lancaster, Union, and York; and

Whereas, the commission's worthy goal is to work toward establishing the Olde English District as a major center of tourism and recreation through promoting its many attractions of interest with a Visitor's Guide and niche market brochures highlighting the African-American historical sites, civil war sites, artists' studios, antiquing, and genealogy of the area; and

Whereas, the commission enhances the profile of the district by working with writersNext from all over the country who Previouswrite stories on the district's attractions. They work diligently to present the district that encompasses these seven counties as a wonderful and educational destination for individuals, families, schools, and other groups; and

Whereas, the Olde English District Tourism Commission has also been a trailblazer in promoting Revolutionary War history in the district. Through the leadership of the commission, the Carolina's Backcountry Revolutionary War Trail was developed and will be preserved for future generations benefiting all South Carolinians; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives pause to recognize the Olde English District Tourism Commission on the occasion of its twenty-fifth anniversary and to honor the commission's rich legacy of bringing visitors and new opportunities to this historic, scenic, and largely rural region of the State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend the Olde English District Tourism Commission and recognize its twenty-five year commitment to promoting tourism and history in Chester, Chesterfield, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lancaster, Union, and York counties which greatly contributes to making tourism the number one industry in the State.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Olde English District Tourism Commission.
