A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-1-435 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT ANY PERSON CURRENTLY EMPLOYED AS A CLASSROOM PreviousTEACHERNext IN THIS STATE FOR GRADES K-12 SHALL REPORT TO THE PRINCIPAL OF THE SCHOOL THE PreviousTEACHERNext'S ARREST FOR ANY VIOLATIONS OF FEDERAL OR STATE CRIMINAL LAW EXCLUDING TRAFFIC OFFENSES, TO PROVIDE THAT THE PRINCIPAL IN TURN SHALL FORWARD THIS INFORMATION TO APPROPRIATE DISTRICT OFFICIALS, AND TO PROVIDE PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 59-1-435. Any person currently employed as a classroom PreviousteacherNext in this State for grades K-12 shall report to the principal of the school the PreviousteacherNext's arrest for any violations of federal or state criminal law excluding traffic offenses. The principal in turn shall forward this information to appropriate district officials.

Any classroom Previousteacher violating the provisions of this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction, must be fined not more than two hundred dollars or imprisoned for not more than thirty days."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
