Political Science at Clemson University, for his distinguished carrer and his
dedicated service to his many students and to wish him well in his retirement.

A HOUSE RESOLUTION
TO COMMEND DR. EDWIN M. COULTER, PROFESSOR
EMERITUS OF POLITICAL SCIENCE AT CLEMSON
UNIVERSITY, FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED CAREER AND HIS
DEDICATED SERVICE TO HIS MANY STUDENTS AND TO WISH
HIM WELL IN HIS RETIREMENT.
Whereas, Dr. Edwin M. Coulter, Professor of Political Science at
Clemson University, is retiring after twenty-one years as a distinguished
professor at Clemson University; and
Whereas, he graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a Bachelor of Arts degree
in political science from Furman University in 1962 and received a
Ph.D. in foreign affairs from the University of Virginia in 1965; and
Whereas, before joining the faculty at Clemson in 1971, Dr. Coulter was
an associate professor at Arkansas State University and at Oklahoma
College of Liberal Arts, his career spanning four decades of dedication
and commitment to providing excellence in education; and
Whereas, during his career Dr. Coulter has been recognized on many
occasions for his contributions in the field of government and political
science and to the institutions in which he has taught; most recently he
was honored by Clemson University which bestowed upon him the title
of Professor Emeritus in Political Science; and
Whereas, Dr. Coulter has published a textbook, Principles of Politics
and Government, which is used widely in colleges and universities
across the country and which is currently undergoing its fifth printing;
and
Whereas, throughout his academic career at Clemson Dr. Coulter has
devoted his life and committed his talents to serving the university and
the thousands of students he has taught; and
Whereas, many of his students have been not only educated and
informed in matters of political science but he has motivated them to
dedicate their professional lives to public service; and
Whereas, Dr. Coulter's influence on his students and enthusiasm in
teaching have inspired many of his students to attain positions of
influence in state, national, and international governance; and
Whereas, the House of Representatives is pleased to have this
opportunity to commend Dr. Edwin M. Coulter on his distinguished
career and dedicated service to his students, Clemson University, and the
State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives by this resolution
commend Dr. Edwin M. Coulter, Professor Emeritus of Political Science
at Clemson University, for his distinguished career and dedicated service
to his many students and wish him well in his retirement.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr.
Coulter.
