A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
COMMENDING THE HONORABLE JULIEN WEINBERG,
JUDGE OF PROBATE FOR CLARENDON COUNTY, FOR HIS
OUTSTANDING PUBLIC SERVICE AND EXTENDING BEST
WISHES FOR A HAPPY RETIREMENT.
Whereas, the Honorable Julien Weinberg, Judge of Probate for
Clarendon County for the past ten years, has announced his
retirement effective May 30, 1995; and
Whereas, Judge Weinberg was the first full-time probate judge in
the county when he took office; before that time, the offices of
probate judge and clerk of court were held by one person; Judge
Weinberg, with Deputy Judge Kathy Geddings, has established an
efficient system for issuing marriage licenses and handling estates
and conservatorships; and
Whereas, Judge Weinberg has rendered outstanding service to the
citizens of Clarendon County for many years; he was elected Mayor
of Manning in 1960 and served for two terms; during his tenure as
mayor, he was elected president of the South Carolina Municipal
Association Division for Small Towns; the association presented
him the Public Service Award in 1967; later he was elected city
councilman for two terms; he also served as master-in-equity and
special referee for the county beginning in 1981; and
Whereas, he was President of the South Carolina Association of
Probate Judges for 1994, having served in other offices of that
association before his election as president; and
Whereas, he is a graduate of Davidson College and the University
of South Carolina School of Law; he was admitted to practice
before the state and federal courts in 1958; he is a member of the
Clarendon County Bar Association, the South Carolina Bar, and the
American Judicature Society; he practiced law in Manning for
twenty-eight years, giving up his practice to offer for probate judge
in 1984; and
Whereas, he has been an outstanding and dedicated public servant
whose contributions are greatly appreciated, and we are delighted to
have this opportunity to accord him special recognition. Now,
therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this
resolution, commends the Honorable Julien Weinberg, Judge of
Probate for Clarendon County, for his outstanding public service
and extends him best wishes for a happy retirement.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Judge Weinberg.
