OF OVER THIRTY-FIVE YEARS TO THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION

A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING THE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO V. ERSKINE SUBER, JR., OF
CAYCE FOR HIS DEDICATED SERVICE OF OVER
THIRTY-FIVE YEARS TO THE SOUTH CAROLINA
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AND THE PEOPLE OF
SOUTH CAROLINA, AND WISHING HIM MANY YEARS OF
HEALTH AND HAPPINESS FOLLOWING HIS RETIREMENT.
Whereas, V. Erskine Suber, Jr., is a 1961 graduate of
Brookland-Cayce High School, a lifelong resident of the City of
Cayce, and an exemplary citizen and public servant of the State of
South Carolina; and
Whereas, Mr. Suber was employed by the State Highway
Department, the Department of Highways and Public Transportation,
and the Department of Transportation, and has dedicated his working
career of over thirty-five years to improving the safety and efficiency
of the state's highway system through his efforts in improving traffic
signal design, geometric design, improved pavement markings, and
improvements to school access and access to highways; and
Whereas, throughout his entire career as a dedicated public servant,
Mr. Suber has been an example to his peers and coworkers by always
keeping the best interests of the State and the safety of the motoring
public first and foremost in his planning, decisions, and actions
affecting the state's highway system and public safety on the
highways; and
Whereas, the nature of Mr. Suber's work over the years required
technical expertise to improve the safety and efficiency of the state's
highway system as well as "people skills", and the
personal diplomacy necessary to cooperate and work well with others
in coordinating highway improvements as between the Department
of Transportation, cities, counties, members of the General
Assembly, and the general public, and Mr. Suber demonstrated these
attributes throughout his career by always going the extra mile to
accomplish any task assigned, from participating in major highway
improvements to planning traffic control for distinguished visitors
such as the Pope's visit to Columbia in September of 1987; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly wish to join with
Mr. Suber, his lovely wife Dianne Goodwin Suber, their five
wonderful children, Karl Suber, Gennie Wheeler, Michael Suber,
Carey Suber, and Angela Shull, his extended family, and his many
friends, to congratulate Mr. V. Erskine Suber, Jr., for his exemplary
career of public service, and to celebrate his forthcoming retirement
on March 31, 1998. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives
concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South
Carolina, by this resolution, commend and thank Mr. V. Erskine
Suber, Jr., for his many years of excellent and dedicated service to the
Department of Transportation, the people of South Carolina, and the
motoring public, and wish him and his family many years of health
and happiness following his retirement.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Mr. V. Erskine Suber, Jr.
