A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

COMMENDING MAYOR PRO TEM WILLIAM L. (BILL) GRAY OF NORTH AUGUSTA FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF EXCELLENT PUBLIC SERVICE AS A NORTH AUGUSTA CITY COUNCILMAN AND PreviousWISHINGNext HIM SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS FOLLOWING HIS RETIREMENT FROM OFFICE.

Whereas, William L. (Bill) Gray, the Mayor Pro Tem for the City of North Augusta, has served as North Augusta City Councilman for twenty-six years, from 1966-68, 1969-71, and since 1975; and

Whereas, he is a graduate of Ohio State University and was employed as Senior Supervisor for DuPont, Reactor Operations, at the Savannah River Site, from which he retired after thirty-six years; and

Whereas, he is a veteran of World War II and attained the rank of captain, serving as an army combat engineer in Europe; he is also a member of Fairview Presbyterian Church, where he is an ordained elder; and

Whereas, he has given freely and most generously of his time, talents, and energy over many years to numerous civic and community causes and endeavors; and

Whereas, as a North Augusta City Councilman, some of his major achievements included increasing the quantity, quality, and distribution of the water system prior to the city's hiring a staff engineer, working to give the city its new municipal building and its new community center, establishing a recycling program, and helping to form the public safety department; and

Whereas, Bill Gray has been a dynamic leader and a dedicated public servant; North Augusta is today an outstanding city because of his efforts and contributions and the citizens of his community are indeed grateful for all that he has done; and

Whereas, he is retiring from public office on May 6, 1997. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commends Mayor Pro Tem William L. (Bill) Gray of North Augusta for his many years of excellent public service as a North Augusta City Councilman and Previouswishes him success and happiness following his retirement from office.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Bill Gray, Mayor Pro Tem of North Augusta.
