AN ACT TO TRANSFER FROM LEXINGTON COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT NUMBER THREE TO LEXINGTON COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT NUMBER ONE THE AREA KNOWN AS DRIFTWOOD POINT, TO DIRECT THE LEXINGTON COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD TO FILE MAPS OF THE REVISED DISTRICT BOUNDARIES WITH THE AFFECTED SCHOOL DISTRICT AND APPROPRIATE COUNTY OFFICES, TO DIRECT THE LEXINGTON COUNTY ASSESSOR TO DETERMINE THE TOTAL 1985 ASSESSED VALUE OF THE TRANSFERRED AREA, AND TO REQUIRE THAT THE REVISED BOUNDARY LINES REFLECT A DIVISION OF THE ASSESSED VALUATION OF PROJECT 516.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Area transferred

SECTION 1. That area of Lexington County School District Number Three known as Driftwood Point is transferred to Lexington County School District Number One. The revised boundary line of District Number One, based on the 1954 map reference, shall follow the existing line north to Highway 378, and then westerly to the bridges at Horse Creek and Driftwood, thereby incorporating within the boundary of District One the property on the north side of Highway 378.

Assessed value

SECTION 2. The Lexington County Tax Assessor shall determine the total assessed value of real property based on 1985 assessments of the area transferred to Lexington County District Number One pursuant to Section 1 of this act.

Boundary line must be adjusted

SECTION 3. In revising the boundary line as required in Section 1, the boundary line crossing Project 516 (the bed of Lake Murray) separating Districts One and Three must also be adjusted, so as to transfer from District One to District Three assessed valuation of Project 516 equal to three times the assessed valuation determined in Section 2 of this act, but in no case more of the assessed valuation of Project 516 than required to produce one hundred twenty thousand dollars in tax revenue for school purposes based on the 1985 District Three Millage.

Maps must be prepared

SECTION 4. The Lexington County School Board, with the assistance of the county tax assessor and auditor shall before the beginning of the 1985-1986 school year prepare maps defining the boundaries of Lexington County School Districts One and Three as altered by this act and file the maps with the offices of the affected school districts, the county auditor, assessor, clerk of court, and register of mesne conveyance.

Effective date of boundary changes

SECTION 5. The new school district boundaries provided in this act are effective beginning with the 1985-1986 school year.

Time effective

SECTION 6. This act shall take effect on approval by the Governor.
