Whereas, the members of the General Assembly note with pride the remarkable accomplishments and contributions of Dr. Virginia Uldrick over the past fifty years to PreviousartsNext education in South Carolina; and

Whereas, Dr. Virginia Uldrick, a native of Greenville, is a graduate of Furman University having received a Bachelor of PreviousArtsNext Degree in Music and the University of South Carolina with a Master's of PreviousArtsNext Degree in Music and Administration. Her doctoral studies in administration, conducting, and music education were at Columbia University, a student of Howard Murphy, Norville Church, Harry Robert Wilson, and Marion Magill. She also studied choral literature and conducting with Robert Shaw and Roger Wagner; and

Whereas, Dr. Uldrick helped develop and establish the South Carolina Governor's School for the PreviousArtsNext and was the first and has been the only President of the School for the PreviousArtsNext and Humanities. She has been serving in that position since the school began in 1981 with a Summer Honors Program held on the campus of Furman University; and

Whereas, in September of 1999, under the leadership of Dr. Uldrick, the school transitioned from its nineteen-year history as a nationally renowned summer program with outreach programs to a year-round center for PreviousartsNext education serving all of South Carolina, its PreviousartsNext educators, and student PreviousartistsNext; and

Whereas, Dr. Uldrick was the founding Principal of the Fine PreviousArtsNext Center in Greenville, and served twenty years as the PreviousArtisticNext and Choral Director of the Singing Christmas tree. She has been honored with the Elizabeth O'Neil Verner Award for Outstanding Achievements in the PreviousArtsNext, Order of the Palmetto, and the Governor's Award for Distinction; and

Whereas, a native of Greenville, South Carolina, Dr. Uldrick has always been active in church affairs. She formally served as soprano soloist, youth director and choir director at Buncombe Street Methodist Church. She directed the Bell Telephone Choir and served as the Music Minister of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Choir and the Westminster Presbyterian Church Choir; and

Whereas, Virginia and her husband, Marion Uldrick, are blessed with one daughter, Lisa Parris; a grandson, Scott; and a granddaughter, Nicole; and

Whereas, an advocate of building partnerships and collaborations, Dr. Uldrick has designed and shaped a distinguished career in the PreviousartsNext and education. The most rewarding part of her job is to see her former students grow into mature and successful adults; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina are extremely proud of Dr. Virginia Uldrick; she is an outstanding individual and an excellent PreviousartsNext educator; she has given freely and most generously of her time and talent to the children of her community, county, and this great State; and we are pleased to have this opportunity to salute her and accord her special recognition for her commitment to education in South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
