A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO OFFER THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH
CAROLINA TO THE PATRICK HENRY ACADEMY "LADY
PATRIOTS" SOFTBALL TEAM FOR AN OUTSTANDING
SEASON BY WINNING THE 1997 AA SOUTH CAROLINA
INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS ASSOCIATION STATE SOFTBALL
CHAMPIONSHIP.
Whereas, the Patrick Henry Academy "Lady Patriots" Softball Team
were the queens of softball by defeating King Academy for the 1997
AA South Carolina Independent Schools Association State Softball
Championship; and
Whereas, the State playoffs began with beautiful weather on Friday,
May 2, 1997, in Lexington, South Carolina; and
Whereas, after a win over Clarendon Hall of 21-11, Patrick Henry
Academy (PHA) played King Academy and won 13-9; and
Whereas, on Saturday bad weather prevented any of the teams from
competing in the playoffs, and the Lady Patriots returned home
disappointed but with confidence soaring; and
Whereas, they returned to Lexington on Sunday afternoon and their
first opponent was Country Day; PHA fell behind 0-4 and nothing
seemed to go right. Finally, in the top of the fourth inning they
started hitting and continued to hit, conquering the game with a 15-9
victory; and
Whereas, the Lady Patriots' last adversary was King Academy, and
in the first inning they knocked in four runs and the game ended with
a 10-1 triumph for PHA; and
Whereas, when all was said and done, the Lady Patriots left
Lexington exhausted but full of pride because they had accomplished
their goal; and
Whereas, the Lady Patriots finished the season with a win-loss record
of 18-1; and
Whereas, the excellent coaching of Head Coach Mary Ann Mixson,
along with Assistant Coach Betty Mixson, clearly paid off for the
Lady Patriots; and
Whereas, the team members include Deana Edenfield, Michelle
Gohagan, Carrie Jarrell, Bridget Kinard, Karla McCrary, Kimberly
McCrary, Kristan McCrary, Mary McKenzie, Nikki Mills, Allison
Mitchell, Marie Mixson, Jennifer Rhodes, Stacey Shuman, Bonnie
Tuten, Sarah Lyn Tuten, and Rachael Vaughn; and
Whereas, these talented young ladies played hard to bring the victory
banner home. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South
Carolina, by this resolution, offer their congratulations to the Patrick
Henry Academy "Lady Patriots" Softball Team for an outstanding
season by winning the 1997 AA South Carolina Independent Schools
Association State Softball Championship.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to
Head Coach Mary Ann Mixson and to Cynthia Exum, Principal of
Patrick Henry Academy.
