To whom was referred a Bill (H. 4443), to amend Act 592 of 1994, relating to the Georgetown County Board of Education, so as to provide that the office of chairman shall no longer be a separate and distinct office, etc., respectfully

A BILL
TO AMEND ACT 592 OF 1994, RELATING TO THE GEORGETOWN COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE OFFICE OF CHAIRMAN SHALL NO LONGER BE A SEPARATE AND DISTINCT OFFICE AFTER THE EXPIRATION OF THE TERM OF THE CURRENT CHAIRMAN, AND THAT THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD THEREAFTER SHALL BE ELECTED BY THE MEMBERS THEREOF.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Section 1 of Act 592 of 1994 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:
"(E) Notwithstanding the provisions of Sections 2 and 4 of Act 907 of 1962, upon the expiration of the term of the chairman of the Georgetown County Board of Education serving in office on the effective date of this subsection, the office of chairman shall no longer be a separate and distinct office, and the board shall consist of nine members all elected by the qualified electors of the county as provided by law. The chairman of the board thereafter shall be selected by the members of the board in the same manner other officers of the board are selected."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
