 ENFORCEMENT AND TO CONGRATULATE HER ON BEING PROMOTED TO COLONEL OF THE SOUTH
 CAROLINA STATE TRANSPORT POLICE.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND PreviousANNANext J. AMOS FOR HER MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THIS STATE THROUGH HER WORK IN PUBLIC SAFETY AND LAW ENFORCEMENT AND TO CONGRATULATE HER ON BEING PROMOTED TO COLONEL OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA STATE TRANSPORT POLICE.

Whereas, PreviousAnnaNext J. Amos was promoted to Colonel of the South Carolina State Transport Police, a division of the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, in November of 2000; and

Whereas, she is a Charleston native and the proud mother of two children, D'PreviousAnnNext and Daniel; she is a member of Bible Way Church of Atlas Road in Richland County, a member of the Police Benevolent Association, and the State Trooper's Coalition; and

Whereas, Colonel Amos, in her duties with the State Transport Police, oversees approximately 200 uniformed and civilian personnel at the statewide law enforcement division, which is charged with enforcing state and federal commercial motor vehicle laws and managing a fourteen million dollar budget; and

Whereas, Colonel Amos began her law enforcement career as the first female hired in Commercial Vehicle Safety as a regulator and later worked as a safety inspector with the South Carolina Public Service Commission where she advanced to the rank of lieutenant; she was the first female captain at the Department of Public Safety and is now the first African-American female to head a law enforcement division in this State; and

Whereas, she has been a major source of innovation within the State Transport Police having formed a Special Operations Unit composed of three specialized teams: the Commercial Vehicle Investigations, the HazMat Team, and the Strategic Traffic Alcohol and Radar Team, which are now all elite elements of the State Transport Police; and

Whereas, Colonel Amos has received numerous professional awards and commendations, including the Public Service Award from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration for her work with diversity outreach during South Carolina's Click It or Ticket Campaign in 2000, which has been called a model program for other states to follow; she also received the 2000 Martin Luther King "I Have A Dream Award" from the Northeast Coalition of Churches; and

Whereas, the General Assembly extends its most sincere appreciation to Colonel PreviousAnnaNext J. Amos for the work she has done and continues to do in making the Palmetto State a safer place for all. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, commend PreviousAnnaNext J. Amos for her many years of dedicated service to this State through her work in public safety and law enforcement and congratulate her on being promoted to Colonel of the South Carolina State Transport Police.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Colonel PreviousAnna J. Amos of Columbia.
