A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR DR. PreviousANNENext S. MCNUTT, OF BEAUFORT COUNTY, FOR TWENTY-ONE YEARS OF SERVICE AS PRESIDENT OF THE TECHNICAL COLLEGE OF THE LOWCOUNTRY AND, UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT, TO WISH HER MUCH SUCCESS IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are grateful for the twenty-one years that Dr. PreviousAnneNext S. McNutt has served the citizens of South Carolina as president of the Technical College of the Lowcountry; and

Whereas, in 1967, PreviousAnneNext McNutt earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education summa cum laude and then a master's degree in English in 1969, both from East Tennessee State University, and she began her distinguished career as an educator in 1967; and

Whereas, by 1979, she had earned a doctorate in higher education administration from George Peabody College for Teachers, now part of Vanderbilt University, and had served on the faculty of two state technical community colleges; and

Whereas, in 1987, Dr. McNutt became the first woman to assume the presidency of a South Carolina technical college when she moved from Tennessee where she had been the dean of instruction at Nashville State Technical Community College for eight years; and

Whereas, under her vigorous leadership at Technical College of the Lowcountry, serving four counties, credit enrollment has doubled, continuing-education programs have increased significantly, numerous buildings have been renovated, contiguous property has been purchased for expansion, and a second campus has been established; and

Whereas, among Dr. McNutt's numerous professional affiliations, she served as the secretary of the Board of Directors for the American Council on Education from 1997 to 1999 and on various committees, and she has written copious articles on education; and

Whereas, she has further served her community on the executive board of the Greater Beaufort Chamber of Commerce from 1995 to 1998, on the executive committee for the Greater Beaufort-Hilton Head Economic Partnership from 2006 to 2007, and as president of the Beaufort Advisory Board of the American Cancer Society, and she continues to serve in the areas of education and economic development; and

Whereas, her many professional citations include receiving the 1995 Martha Kime Piper Leadership Award and being named the 1984 Administrator of the Year by the Technical Education Council; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to acknowledge the distinguished career of Dr. PreviousAnneNext S. McNutt in the field of education for forty-one years and wish her happiness and health in her much-deserved retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor Dr. PreviousAnneNext S. McNutt, of Beaufort County, for twenty-one years of service as president of the Technical College of the Lowcountry and, upon the occasion of her retirement, wish her much success in all her future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. PreviousAnne S. McNutt.
