RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE THE TOWN THEATRE (THE COLUMBIA
STAGE SOCIETY) OF COLUMBIA AS IT CELEBRATES ITS
EIGHTIETH ANNIVERSARY WITH THE UPCOMING 1998-99
SEASON, AND TO RECOGNIZE IT AS A TREASURE TO
ACTORS, ARTISTS, AND AUDIENCES ALIKE.
Whereas, the Town Theatre (The Columbia Stage Society) eagerly
anticipates its eightieth anniversary season in 1998-99; and
Whereas, the Town Theatre of Columbia is recognized as the oldest
continuously operating community theatre in the United States; and
Whereas, it has offered more than a half million actors, artists, and
audience members the opportunity to participate in quality theatrical
productions during its first seventy-nine years; and
Whereas, the theatre may be best known for its skillfully staged and
enormously successful musical productions; its annual bill also
traditionally includes expert presentations of both comedies and
dramas; and
Whereas, the upcoming eightieth anniversary season will continue to
provide the Town Theatre's trademark family entertainment of
musicals, drama, and comedy; and
Whereas, the Town Theatre of Columbia aspires to an even greater
level of excellence in fulfilling its mission to provide the community
and the State with access to, and opportunity for participation in,
quality theatre; and
Whereas, the State of South Carolina, the City of Columbia, and
countless businesses and individuals have generously joined in the
Town Theatre's additional important effort to preserve and renovate
the historic theatre, in recognition of its vital contributions to
community theatre and to this community. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly congratulate the Town
Theatre (The Columbia Stage Society) of Columbia as its celebrates
its eightieth anniversary with the upcoming 1998-99 season, and
recognize it as a treasure to actors, artists, and audiences alike.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
the Town Theatre (The Columbia Stage Society) of Columbia.
