Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

School starting and ending date

SECTION    1.    (A)    Notwithstanding the provisions of Section 59-5-71 of the 1976 Code, or a regulation or action of the State Board of Education to the contrary, beginning with school year 2003-2004, local school district boards of trustees of the following districts shall set the starting and ending date for the PreviousannualNext school terms of the schools in their districts:

(1)    School District No. 50 in Greenwood County;

(2)    School District No. 52 in Greenwood County;

(3)    School District No. 51 in Greenwood and Laurens Counties;

(4)    School District No. 55 in Laurens County; and

(5)    School District No. 56 in Laurens County.

(B)    The Previousannual school term must comply with all requirements of Section 59-1-420 relating to length of the school term.

Time effective

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
