H. 5089

A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE GEORGIA PreviousANNNext DOWNS CARSON OF GREENVILLE ON THE OCCASION OF HER ONE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HER A JOYOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND MUCH HAPPINESS IN THE DAYS AHEAD.

Whereas, on March 19, 2022, Georgia PreviousAnnNext Downs Carson of Greenville will awaken to the celebration of a milestone event: her one hundredth birthday; and

Whereas, born on a farm in Moonville, the young Georgia PreviousAnnNext came into this world on March 19, 1922. She moved with her parents to 18 Chicora Street in 1936, and Georgia was raised there; and

Whereas, in the fullness of time, she met and married her husband, and they moved to Chicago. When they returned from Chicago, she moved back to the Haynie-Sirrine neighborhood, where she raised her family and, indeed, where she has spent most of her life. Mrs. Carson is the proud mother of eight children: Jack Downs, Willie Carson, Julia Carson, George Carson, Jr., Andrew Carson, David Carson, Shirley Carson, and Marvin Carson; and

Whereas, in addition, Mrs. Carson delights in her thirteen charming grandchildren, her fourteen winsome great-grandchildren, and her six adorable great-great-grandchildren; and

Whereas, Mrs. Carson spent her career as a housekeeper, and her husband worked for the City of Greenville Public Works; and

Whereas, this woman of faith finds her spiritual home at Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church on Whitehorse Road, where she is a faithful member; and

Whereas, the milestone celebration, which the baby of the family, Marvin, helped make possible, will take place in her son David's house on Haynie; and

Whereas, she loves red velvet cake and has a special place in her heart for ice cream. The House trusts she will be able to indulge this taste to the fullest on her centennial birthday; and

Whereas, it is a great pleasure to honor this daughter of South Carolina at the celebration of her one hundredth birthday, and the members join with her family and friends in congratulating her on reaching this important life milestone. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Georgia PreviousAnnNext Downs Carson of Greenville on the occasion of her one hundredth birthday and wish her a joyous birthday celebration and much happiness in the days ahead.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Georgia PreviousAnn Downs Carson of Greenville.
