S*0930 Concurrent Resolution, By R.L. Helmly
A Concurrent Resolution to recognize the employees at Amoco Chemical Company's
Cooper River Plant in Berkeley County upon earning the President's Annual
Safety Award for the best overall safety performance of all company locations
for the second consecutive year.
04/25/91 Senate Introduced, adopted, sent to House SJ-14
04/30/91 House Introduced, adopted, returned with concurrence
A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE THE EMPLOYEES AT AMOCO CHEMICAL
COMPANY'S COOPER RIVER PLANT IN BERKELEY COUNTY
UPON EARNING THE PRESIDENT'S ANNUAL SAFETY AWARD
FOR THE BEST OVERALL SAFETY PERFORMANCE OF ALL
COMPANY LOCATIONS FOR THE SECOND CONSECUTIVE
YEAR.
Whereas, the employees at Amoco Chemical Company's Cooper River
plant in Berkeley County have earned the President's Annual Safety
Award for the best overall safety performance of all company locations
for the second consecutive year competing against seventy-four Amoco
Chemical locations; and
Whereas, this is the first time an Amoco Chemical facility has repeated
as an award recipient. The employees improved last year's award-winning performance by sixty-seven percent; and
Whereas, the annual safety award is presented to the one Amoco
Chemical location that has demonstrated a positive management attitude,
leadership, and responsibility toward safety. The award is based on
calendar-year performance; and
Whereas, "To win this prestigious award two years in a row is a
remarkable accomplishment," said Amoco Chemical President
Bob Cadieux. "The employees at Cooper River have given us a
safety performance benchmark that other Amoco Chemical Company
facilities should strive to achieve." Mr. Cadieux and other
members of the company's senior management formally will present a
permanent trophy to plant employees in May; and
Whereas, Cooper River's two hundred seventy-one employees have
worked more than 2.3 million hours without a "Days Away From
Work" case. The last "Days Away From Work" case
at Cooper River was in September, 1986; and
Whereas, Ken Mayhall, Cooper River's plant manager, says hard work
and dedication were behind the award. "Clearly defined goals are
the key," he says. "And our No. 1 goal is zero defects in
plant safety. Everyone here has worked very hard to minimize risks in
the workplace;" and
Whereas, the Cooper River plant is the largest single purified
terephthalic acid (PTA) unit in the world producing 1.6 billion pounds
a year, virtually all of which is exported through the Port of Charleston.
PTA is an intermediate in the production of polyester fiber, film,
packaging, and specialty products. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly recognize the employees at
Amoco Chemical Company's Cooper River plant in Berkeley County
upon earning the President's Annual Safety Award for the best overall
safety performance of all company locations for the second consecutive
year.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr.
Cadieux and Mr. Mayhall.
