A SENATE RESOLUTION TO CONGRATULATE MR. AND MRS. JACOB W. (JAKE) ROGERS OF
ANDERSON UPON THE OCCASION OF THEIR SIXTIETH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY, AND TO THANK
THEM FOR A LIFETIME OF DEDICATED SERVICE AS ANDERSON COUNTY EDUCATORS.

A SENATE RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE MR. AND MRS. JACOB W. (JAKE)
ROGERS OF ANDERSON UPON THE OCCASION OF THEIR
SIXTIETH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY, AND TO THANK THEM
FOR A LIFETIME OF DEDICATED SERVICE AS ANDERSON
COUNTY EDUCATORS.
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are pleased
to learn that Mr. and Mrs. Jacob W. (Jake) Rogers will celebrate
their sixtieth wedding anniversary on June 23, 1998; and
Whereas, Sara Letitia Branyon and Jacob Walter Rogers are both
natives of Anderson County, met while attending Erskine College,
and were married June 23, 1938, in the Keowee Baptist Church in
Honea Path; and
Whereas, Mrs. Rogers graduated cum laude from Erskine College
with a B.A. in English in 1937, graduated from Furman University
with a M.A. in education in 1958, and served in the Anderson County
public school system for forty years, including twenty years as a
classroom teacher teaching English and mathematics and twenty
years as a guidance counselor. She began work at Palmetto High
School when it was established in 1953 and worked there until her
retirement in 1980; and
Whereas, Mr. Rogers graduated from Erskine College with a B.A. in
history in 1934 where he lettered in football and baseball and worked
in the Anderson County public school system for thirty-two years
until his retirement in 1975. He coached football, baseball, and
basketball at White Plains and Belton High Schools and taught
history and government at Palmetto High School beginning with its
establishment in 1953; and
Whereas, they are both devoted members of the Young Memorial
Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Anderson and are the
proud parents of two daughters, Patricia Ruth Rogers and Sara
Shirley (Sally) Rogers, and have two grandchildren; and
Whereas, the members of the Senate, by this resolution, would like
to publicly recognize and congratulate these truly outstanding South
Carolinians on the occasion of their upcoming sixtieth wedding
anniversary and thank them for a lifetime of service to countless
numbers of students whose lives they touched as two of South
Carolina's most distinguished educators. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate hereby congratulate Mr. and Mrs.
Jacob W. (Jake) Rogers upon the occasion of their sixtieth wedding
anniversary, and thank them for a lifetime of dedicated service as
Anderson County educators.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Mr. and Mrs. Jacob W. (Jake) Rogers.
