TO EXPRESS VERY BEST WISHES FROM THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE FORMER CREW MEMBERS OF THE USS FRED T. BERRY ON THE OCCASION OF THEIR PreviousANNUALNext REUNION, HOSTED THIS YEAR IN THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA IN THE CITY OF CHARLESTON, AND WISH FOR THE CREW MEMBERS A WONDERFUL GATHERING WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE MANY HISTORICAL SIGHTS IN CHARLESTON, INCLUDING PATRIOTS POINT AND THE REMAINS OF THE HISTORIC H.L. HUNLEY SUBMARINE.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina wish a memorable weekend to the former crew members of the USS Fred T. Berry, who will gather in Charleston October 11 through 14, 2001, for their sixteenth PreviousannualNext reunion; and

Whereas, the State of South Carolina is honored to recognize the USS Fred T. Berry and her crew for their extensive service to the United States of America as they convene in Charleston for their first reunion in South Carolina; and

Whereas, the USS Fred T. Berry was commissioned in May 1945, served in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, and was decommissioned in September 1970. The great ship was laid to rest when she was sunk off the coast of Key West, Florida in the Straits of Florida to form a manmade reef May 14, 1972; and

Whereas, the USS Fred T. Berry and the valiant crew who served aboard her saw most of the world including Europe, the Mediterranean, the Middle East, the Caribbean, the Far East, Central America, South America, Canada, and Bermuda. The Berry received several overhauls during her extensive travels in the twenty-five years of her commission; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly and the people of the State of South Carolina are privileged that the USS Fred T. Berry Reunion Association has chosen Charleston as the location for their sixteenth PreviousannualNext reunion and wish these honorable attending members a delightful stay in this historic city. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their very best wishes to the former crew members of the USS Fred T. Berry on the occasion of their Previousannual reunion, hosted this year in the State of South Carolina in the city of Charleston, and wish for the crew members a wonderful gathering with the opportunity to take advantage of the many historical sights in Charleston, including Patriots Point and the remains of the historic H.L. Hunley Submarine.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the USS Fred T. Berry Reunion Association.
