H 2044 General Bill, By F.L. Day
A Bill to amend Section 12-7-660, as amended, Code of Laws of South Carolina,
1976, relating to deductions allowed to determine adjusted gross income, so as
to increase from twelve hundred to twelve thousand dollars annually the
deduction allowed from gross income for retired persons who receive a federal
civil service retirement annuity, to eliminate the requirement that persons
retired from the United States uniformed services shall have twenty or more
years active duty service to be eligible to claim the deduction, to eliminate
the requirement that retired persons shall attain the age of sixty-five before
the taxable year closes to be eligible to claim the deduction and to allow the
deduction for these retired persons who receive income under annuity as well
as pension programs, and to authorize survivors of retired persons who receive
the retirement pay to claim the same deduction for survivors' benefits
resulting from the payment; and to provide that the dollar amount of the
deductions must be annually adjusted for the impact of inflation.
