S 0517 Joint Resolution, By Courson
A Joint Resolution proposing an amendment to Section 9 of Article III of the
Constitution of South Carolina, 1895, relating to sessions of the General
Assembly, so as to delete obsolete language, provide for an annual salary for
members of the General Assembly, and limit the annual session of the General
Assembly to forty legislative days unless extended by a vote of three-fourths
of the members elected to each house, proposing an amendment to Section 18 of
Article III of the Constitution of South Carolina, 1895, relating to the
formalities required for an Act or Joint Resolution, so as to provide that a
prefiled Bill or Joint Resolution is considered to have received first reading
at the time of prefiling, and proposing an amendment to Section 19 of Article
III of the Constitution of South Carolina, 1895, relating to mileage, per
diem, and compensation of General Assembly members during extra sessions, so
as to prohibit a General Assembly from raising the annual salary of its own
members, to delete references to per diem, and to provide that members of the
General Assembly may receive no additional compensation beyond annual salary
for an extra session.
