AND AS A NORTH AUGUSTA CITY COUNCILMAN AND WISHING HIM SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS
FOLLOWING HIS RETIREMENT FROM OFFICE.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
RECOGNIZING AND THANKING THOMAS W. (TOM) GREENE
FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING AND DEDICATED
SERVICE AS MAYOR OF NORTH AUGUSTA AND AS A
NORTH AUGUSTA CITY COUNCILMAN AND WISHING HIM
SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS FOLLOWING HIS RETIREMENT
FROM PUBLIC OFFICE.
Whereas, Thomas W. (Tom) Greene served as a North Augusta City
Councilman from May, 1971 to May, 1985 and has been the Mayor
of North Augusta since May, 1985; and
Whereas, he is a graduate of Georgia Tech and was employed as
Manager of Site Services for Westinghouse, Savannah River Site,
from which he retired on October 1, 1993, after thirty-six years; and
Whereas, he served in the United States Air Force for five years as
pilot for the Military Air Transport Service and was command pilot
for the Tactical Air Command, attaining the rank of captain; and
Whereas, he is a member of First Baptist Church of North Augusta
and has participated in numerous civic organizations and endeavors;
among his many accomplishments in public office were enacting the
first comprehensive planning and zoning ordinance for the City of
North Augusta, successfully launching the riverfront development,
establishing the North Augusta Crime Free Task Force, designing the
first capital equipment replacement program, and forming the city's
public safety department; and
Whereas, Tom Greene has been an excellent city councilman and
mayor; he has worked hard over many years to give his fellow
citizens good government and he has been a truly devoted and
successful public servant; and
Whereas, he will be retiring from public office on May 6, 1997, when
his current term as mayor ends; and
Whereas, we are delighted to have this opportunity to recognize and
thank such a dedicated public servant in this special manner. Now,
therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this
resolution, recognizes and thanks Thomas W. (Tom) Greene for his
many years of outstanding and dedicated service as Mayor of North
Augusta and as a North Augusta City Councilman and wishes him
success and happiness following his retirement from public office.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Mayor Tom Greene.
