SENATE UPON LEARNING OF THE DEATH OF JESSE KEY OF NORTH AUGUSTA AND EXTENDING
THEIR SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

A SENATE RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING THE SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE UPON LEARNING OF THE DEATH OF JESSE KEY OF NORTH AUGUSTA AND EXTENDING THEIR SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate were saddened to learn of the death of Jesse Key of North Augusta on March 26, 2000, at the age of eighty; and
Whereas, Mr. Key, a native of Aiken County, was an outstanding businessman and entrepreneur and was the former owner of the L&M Caf¿ and Bennett Gas Company; and
Whereas, he was a former public servant and protector of the people, having served with pride and honor as an Aiken County Deputy Sheriff; and
Whereas, a veteran, patriot, and devoted to his country, Mr. Key was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, formerly serving as the Commander of the Bath VFW Post No.153 and as a member of the Bath American Legion, Post 40 and 8; and
Whereas, he was a charter member of the Second Baptist Church of Beech Island where he was a devout and loyal member who was dedicated to his beliefs and a witness to his faith; and
Whereas, Mr. Key is survived by one son, Billy Key of North Augusta, one stepson Harvey Wren of Langley, three sisters, three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate wish to take this opportunity to extend their sincere condolences to the family of Mr. Jesse Key on the passing of such an honorable native son. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, express their sorrow upon learning of the death of Jesse Key of North Augusta and extend their sympathy to his family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Mr. Jesse Key.
