Whereas, John T. Campbell, who served as South Carolina's Secretary

a pilot in the United States Army Air Force; and
Whereas, he owned Campbell's Drug Stores in Columbia, served two
terms on the Columbia City Council, and was Mayor of Columbia from
1970-78; and
Whereas, he was elected to the office of Secretary of State in 1978 and
reelected in 1982 and 1986 and served with great distinction; and
Whereas, he was well known and greatly liked for his outstanding sense
of humor and his quick wit; and
Whereas, he was never too busy as a businessman in Columbia or as a
municipal or statewide officeholder to take the time to listen to anyone
who had a problem or who just wanted to talk; and
Whereas, he was a dedicated public servant and a truly kind, generous,
and friendly individual who was very popular and who will be greatly
missed. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
