A Senate Resolution to recognize and commemorate the 50th anniversary of the
ordination of the Reverend Monsignor Louis Francis Sterker to the priesthood
of the Roman Catholic Church and to thank him for his career of dedicated,
faithful and loving service to his many family members, friends, parishioners,
and to all the people of South Carolina.

A SENATE
RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEMORATE THE 50TH
ANNIVERSARY OF THE ORDINATION OF THE REVEREND
MONSIGNOR LOUIS FRANCIS STERKER TO THE
PRIESTHOOD OF THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH AND TO
THANK HIM FOR HIS CAREER OF DEDICATED, FAITHFUL
AND LOVING SERVICE TO HIS MANY FAMILY MEMBERS,
FRIENDS, PARISHIONERS, AND TO ALL THE PEOPLE OF
SOUTH CAROLINA.
Whereas, William C. and Wilma Weber Sterker were blessed with
the birth of their son, Louis Francis Sterker on October 7, 1920 in
Bronx, New York; and
Whereas, young Louis Sterker completed his primary and secondary
education at Saint Francis de Sales Parochial School and Power
Memorial Academy in New York City; and
Whereas, Louis Francis Sterker completed his theological studies at
Saint Charles Seminary in Cantonsville, Maryland and Saint Mary
Seminary in Baltimore, Maryland; and
Whereas, His Excellency the Reverend Bishop Emmet M. Walsh,
Bishop of Charleston, ordained Louis Francis Sterker as a priest in
the Roman Catholic Church on June 15, 1946 in the Church of
Saint Francis de Sales in New York City, and
Whereas, the first assignment served by Monsignor Sterker as an
Associate was during 1946 in Charleston, South Carolina at the
Church of Saint Joseph and subsequently at the Cathedral of Saint
John the Baptist from 1946 until 1951; and
Whereas, Monsignor Sterker served as Administrator at the
Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist from 1951 through 1956 and
Rector from 1956 through October 1970, immediately assuming a
pastorate at the Church of Saint Anthony in Florence until 1975;
and
Whereas, Monsignor Sterker also pastored Our Lady of Peace
Church in North Augusta and Saint Joseph Catholic Church and
Our Lady of the Hills in Columbia, South Carolina; and
Whereas, Monsignor Sterker's responsibilities have included serving
as Dean in Florence, Aiken and Columbia, South Carolina and as a
member of the Diocese Personnel Committee, Moderator and
Diocesan Moderator of the Council of Church Women, Chaplain of
the Newman Club at the College of Charleston, and Vicar General
from 1990 through 1993, and has served as Papal Chamberlain and
has touched the lives of numerous citizens through his many
pastoral and community works. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the South Carolina Senate recognizes and commemorates the
50th anniversary of the ordination of The Reverend Monsignor
Louis Francis Sterker to the priesthood of the Roman Catholic
Church and thanks him for his career of dedicated, faithful and
loving service to his many family members, friends, parishioners,
and to all the people of South Carolina.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Monsignor Louis Francis Sterker.
