A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
COMMENDING AND THANKING LILY-ROLAND HALL OF
ANDERSON FOR HER OUTSTANDING AND EXEMPLARY
SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF SOUTH CAROLINA AS A
MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE
UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA IN COLUMBIA.
Whereas, Lily-Roland Hall of Anderson has served with distinction
for sixteen years as a member of the Board of Trustees of the
University of South Carolina; and
Whereas, Mrs. Hall, elected to the board in 1980, was the first
woman chosen by the General Assembly to serve in this capacity;
and
Whereas, she was born in Augusta, Georgia, and is married to H.
Dean Hall; and
Whereas, she graduated from Strom Thurmond High School in
1962 and earned a bachelor of arts degree in English/political
science from the University of South Carolina in 1966; she also
attended graduate school at USC in journalism from 1968-70; and
Whereas, she interned in the office of United States Senator Strom
Thurmond in Washington, D.C., in 1964 and was the WUSC radio
station manager at USC from 1965-66; she was a continuity writer
at the South Carolina ETV Network from 1966-67 and publication
editor for the network from 1966-71; she worked as production
assistant in the Communications Center at Clemson University from
1972-73 and was station manager at WEPR at Clemson from
1973-81; she was also the owner-manager of Carter-Hall
Collectibles from 1982-93; and
Whereas, she is a charter member of the Anderson County Arts
Council and of Anderson Heritage; she is a member of the
Anderson Garden Club, a patron of the South Caroliniana Society,
and a member of Colonial Dames XVII Century, the Daughters of
the American Revolution, Kappa Delta Sorority, and Grace
Episcopal Church; and
Whereas, she was chosen "First" Woman of Anderson
by the city's Woman's Club in 1988 and was the Business and
Professional Women's "Woman of the Year" for 1981;
in 1980 she was named Outstanding Junior Member by the South
Carolina Colonial Dames, and she was selected for the Individual
Promotion Award by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting in
1979; she was a delegate from South Carolina to the Democratic
National Convention in 1976 and served as State Coordinator for
the South Carolina Teenage Republican Federation in 1966; and
Whereas, she served as a member of the Commission on Two-Year
Colleges in South Carolina from 1994-95 and also served on the
Board of Directors for the Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce
from 1983 until 1987, the South Carolina Humanities Council from
1978 until 1982, and the Education Advisory Committee of the
Appalachian Council of Governments from 1976 until 1980; and
Whereas, while serving on the Board of Trustees at USC, she
served on the board's Intercollegiate Activities Committee, the
Executive Committee, the Academic Affairs Committee, the
Student-Trustee Liaison Committee, the Medical Affairs Committee,
and the Ad hoc Committee on Desegregation, and she chaired the
board's Ad hoc Committee on System Relationships; and
Whereas, Mrs. Hall, who is retiring from the board after the
expiration of her term of office in 1996, has rendered superb
service and leadership to this grand old institution of higher
learning; and
Whereas, it is with heartfelt appreciation that we recognize her for
her many contributions and accomplishments on behalf of the
people of the great State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this
resolution, commends and thanks Lily-Roland Ebert Hall of
Anderson for her outstanding and exemplary service to the people
of South Carolina as a member of the Board of Trustees of the
University of South Carolina in Columbia.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Mrs. Hall and to the Board of Trustees of the University of South
Carolina, in care of its chairman, Dr. C. Edward Floyd.
