DISTINGUISHED BUSINESS AND CIVIC LEADERS, MRS. MINOR MICKEL SHAW, IN
RECOGNITION OF HER MANY DEDICATED YEARS AND OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS AS AN
ADVOCATE TO CHILDREN PROGRAMS, QUALITY EDUCATION, HEALTH PROGRAMS,
FOUNDATIONS, BANKS, ROPER MOUNTAIN SCIENCE CENTER, COLLEGES, YMCA, AND THE
ARTS.

A SENATE RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE ONE OF GREENVILLE COUNTY'S
MOST DISTINGUISHED BUSINESS AND CIVIC LEADERS,
MRS. MINOR MICKEL SHAW, IN RECOGNITION OF HER
MANY DEDICATED YEARS AND OUTSTANDING
ACHIEVEMENTS AS AN ADVOCATE TO CHILDREN
PROGRAMS, QUALITY EDUCATION, HEALTH PROGRAMS,
FOUNDATIONS, BANKS, ROPER MOUNTAIN SCIENCE
CENTER, COLLEGES, YMCA, AND THE ARTS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are delighted to
learn that Mrs. Minor Mickel Shaw of Greenville will be honored at
a special "Honors Banquet" by Altrusa International, Inc., of
Greenville, South Carolina, on March 11, 1997; and
Whereas, Minor Mickel Shaw was born on August 22, 1947, in
Elberton, Georgia; and
Whereas, Mrs. Shaw attended Randolph-Macon Woman's College
and continued her quest for knowledge by graduating from the
University of North Carolina with an A.B. degree in 1969; and
Whereas, she is married to Dr. Harold E. Shaw, Jr., and they are
blessed with three children: two daughters, Kathryn Alston Shaw and
Anne Carter Shaw and one son, Harold E. Shaw III; and
Whereas, she began her career in banking and is presently the
President of Micco Corporation; and
Whereas, Mrs. Shaw has a well-deserved reputation for intelligence,
loyalty, and dedication which is exemplified through her service as
a board member on numerous boards and foundations including: the
local Advisory Board of NationsBank Carolina; Board of Visitors of
the University of North Carolina; National Development Council of
the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, serving as Chairman
of the Greenville-Spartanburg NDC; the Arts and Science Foundation
- University of North Carolina; United Way of Greenville, Past
Chairman; Palmetto Society Board of the United Way of Greenville;
Charity Ball Board; Capital Insights (venture capital); Greenville
Chamber of Commerce; YMCA of Greenville Metro Board; South
Carolina ETV Foundation; Riverplace Board of Directors;
Convention and Visitors Bureau; Christ Church Episcopal School
Board of Visitors; and the United Way of South Carolina; and
Whereas, she is currently involved on the Steering Committee of the
Phillis Wheatley Association's Capital Campaign, the Steering
Committee for Long Range Plan - CCES, Greenville Medical Society
Auxiliary, a member of First Baptist Church, and countless other
civic and charitable organizations; and
Whereas, Minor Shaw has been the recipient of numerous honors and
awards for her leadership, service, and contributions to the County of
Greenville, as well as to the Palmetto State; and
Whereas, it is a fitting tribute for the Altrusa International, Inc., of
Greenville, South Carolina, to honor this distinguished South
Carolinian, Minor Mickel Shaw, on March 11, 1997. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution,
congratulate one of Greenville County's most distinguished business
and civic leaders, Mrs. Minor Mickel Shaw, in recognition of her
many dedicated years and outstanding achievements as an advocate
to children programs, quality education, health programs,
foundations, banks, Roper Mountain Science Center, colleges,
YMCA, and the arts.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to
Mrs. Minor Mickel Shaw.
