 FOR HER MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE IN THE FIELD OF EDUCATION, AS A
 SECRETARY, TEACHER AND VOCATIONAL CONSULTANT, AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO HER
 AND HER FAMILY ON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT FROM RICHLAND SCHOOL DISTRICT
 ONE.

A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE MRS. GERTRUDE MITCHELL MURRAY FOR HER MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE IN THE FIELD OF EDUCATION, AS A SECRETARY, TEACHER, AND VOCATIONAL CONSULTANT, AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO HER AND HER FAMILY ON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT FROM RICHLAND SCHOOL DISTRICT ONE.

Whereas, Mrs. Gertrude Mitchell Murray is a graduate of Hopkins High School, Random Business College, and the University of South Carolina, and has dedicated her adult life to the field of education and career counseling; and

Whereas, Mrs. Murray began her career in the field of education as a secretary at Atlas Road Elementary School in 1966, was transferred to Hopkins High School in 1967, and worked there until 1979; and

Whereas, Mrs. Murray returned to school at the University of South Carolina in 1978 to pursue her degree in teaching, earned her B.S. degree in Education in 1981, and her Masters degree in Education in 1985; and

Whereas, Mrs. Murray returned to work at Lower Richland High School as a full-time Distributive Education (typing) teacher. From 1982 to 1985, she taught Distributive Education at A. C. Flora High School. In 1985 she joined the Career and Technology Education office as a Career Consultant; and

Whereas, in addition to her undergraduate and graduate work at the University of South Carolina, and to enhance her ability to help others in the field of education and career counseling, Mrs. Murray has also completed additional studies at South Carolina State University, The Citadel, and Clemson University; and

Whereas, in addition to being active with the American Marketing Association while a student at the University of South Carolina, Mrs. Murray has held offices as recording secretary, Delta Kappa Gamma and President of the Wisteria Garden Club. She is a devoted member of St. Augustine's Episcopal Church, Wedgefield, where she has served as financial secretary and as a member of the vestry; and

Whereas, Mrs. Murray is married to Julius Murray and has three children and four grandchildren. Her interests include gardening, the art of flower arranging, and researching topics of interest. She is recognized as being very talented in these areas and has much to look forward to in retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate hereby commend and congratulate Mrs. Gertrude Mitchell Murray for her many years of dedicated service in the field of education, as a secretary, teacher, and vocational consultant, and extend their best wishes to her and her family on the occasion of her retirement from Richland School District One.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Gertrude Mitchell Murray.
