A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO ELIZABETH L. COKER, SUPERINTENDENT OF CLARENDON COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 3, ON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT AND TO WISH FOR HER GOOD HEALTH AND HAPPINESS IN RETIREMENT.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives note that Mrs. Elizabeth L. "Betty" Coker is retiring this summer as Superintendent of Clarendon County School District No. 3, a post she was elected to in 1994-95; and

Whereas, Superintendent Coker, a graduate of Newberry College who earned her advanced degrees from the University of South Carolina, has served the cause of public education with dedication and determination for thirty-four years, earning a well-deserved retirement; and

Whereas, she joined Clarendon County School District No. 3 in August, 1965, as a science and math teacher at East Clarendon High School, continued as a guidance counselor and interim principal, and then in 1978-79 moved to the district office as Federal Programs Coordinator; and

Whereas, Superintendent Coker, the deeply committed teaching and administrative staff of the district, and trustees Col. Larry Coker, Chairman, Dr. George Green, Vice Chairman, Mr. Shelby Barrineau, Mr. Allen Coker, Mrs. Mary Cooper, Mr. George Frierson, and Mr. Gerald Herrington are outstanding examples of the best in public education in this State; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for members of the House of Representatives to pause in their deliberations so that they might express their high regard for such dedicated public servants, especially Superintendent Coker, as she retires. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That by this resolution, the members of the House of Representatives express their congratulations and best wishes to Elizabeth L. Coker, Superintendent of Clarendon County School District No. 3, on the occasion of her retirement and wish for her good health and happiness in retirement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Superintendent Elizabeth L. Coker and Col. Larry Coker, Chairman, Clarendon County School District No. 3 Board of Trustees.
