 A SENATE RESOLUTION TO EXPRESS THE SINCERE SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE
 SENATE TO THE FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS OF JULIA HAMER STORK OF CAYCE WHO PASSED
 AWAY APRIL 18, 2001, AND TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND HER FOR MANY YEARS OF
 OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY SERVICE.

TO EXPRESS THE SINCERE SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SENATE TO THE FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS OF JULIA HAMER STORK OF CAYCE WHO PASSED AWAY APRIL 18, 2001, AND TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND HER FOR MANY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY SERVICE.

Whereas, Julie Hamer Stork was born August 22, 1924 in Dillon, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Berry Hamer; and

Whereas, Mrs. Stork was a charter member of Transfiguration Lutheran Church in Cayce where she was a member of the Morning Seekers Circle and Crowder Sunday School Class. She was past president of "Women of the Church"; and

Whereas, Mrs. Stork was the founder and Matron of Cayce Eastern Star Chapter 260 and founder and past president of Evergreen Garden Club. She organized the first Christmas carol-lighting in the Cayce area and the first Easter sunrise service held at Guignard Park; and

Whereas, Mrs. Stock served as president of the Lexington County Beautification and Community Improvement Committee for six consecutive years. During this time, the committee was awarded first place in state competition and received three national awards. Mrs. Stork was recognized as "Outstanding Individual of the Year" for her community service and beautification efforts. She also served as chairman of the Cayce Beautification Board for four years, receiving national recognition; and

Whereas, Mrs. Stork, as the representative for the West Columbia-Cayce Community Improvement Committee, accepted three national awards from the organization "Keep America Beautiful" at a ceremony held in New York. She was also named in "Personalities of the South" in recognition of her outstanding community service; and

Whereas, Mr. and Mrs. Stork owned and operated Stork Cleaners in Cayce for thirty-three years, until their retirement in 1984. Mrs. Stork served several years on the board of directors for the Greater West Columbia-Cayce Chamber of Commerce and in 1963, she was awarded "Outstanding Business Person of the Year"; and

Whereas, Mrs. Stork is survived by her husband, Richard L. "Buddy" Stork, three sons and three daughters-in-law, Velma and Richard L. Stork, Jr., Charles Curtis and Cheryl Stork, and Jim R. and Jerius Stork, all of Columbia, a sister, Kathleen H. Brown of Daytona Beach, Florida, ten grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate express their sincere sympathy to the family and many friends of Julia Hamer Stork of Cayce who passed away April 18, 2001, and recognize and commend her for many years of community service.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Julia Hamer Stork.
