Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are deeply saddened to learn that Melvin G. Gottschalg of Charleston passed away on the evening of December 31, 2000; and

Whereas, he was born August 19, 1921, in Plymouth, Nebraska, and was a graduate of Doane College in Crete, Nebraska; and

Whereas, with the death of this fine man at the age of seventy-nine, the people of South Carolina have lost a successful businessman, a political and community leader, and a good friend. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Melvin G. Gottschalg of Charleston and extend deepest sympathy to his family and friends.
