A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE THE HONORABLE EARL HUNTER OF LEXINGTON ON HIS APPOINTMENT AS COMMISSIONER OF THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL, TO THANK HIM FOR HIS DEDICATION TO THE DEPARTMENT, AND TO WISH HIM IMMENSE SUCCESS IN HIS NEW POSITION.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are delighted at the recent selection of the Honorable Earl Hunter as the Commissioner of the Department of Health and Environmental Control in Columbia. He assumed his new position on August 1, 2001; and

Whereas, Earl Hunter has been the lobbyist and legislative liaison for the Department of Health and Environmental Control since 1993, and he is the first commissioner to have a background in environmental regulation as opposed to health; and

Whereas, Earl Hunter does not have any significant policy shifts in mind, but his plans include tightening federal air pollution rules, cutting water pollution discharges near Charleston Harbor, controlling factory-style hog farms, enforcing tougher river pollution standards, and lowering some of the nation's highest rates of disease; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are pleased that the Department of Health and Environmental Control has chosen the Honorable Earl Hunter as Commissioner and hope for him a successful tenure. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, commend and congratulate the Honorable Earl Hunter of Lexington on his appointment as Commissioner of the Department of Health and Environmental Control, thank him for his dedication to the department, and wish him immense success in his new position.
