Whereas, the "Blue Flame" of Pickens went into each game with the confidence and determination that enabled them to finish the season with a remarkable overall record of thirty-three wins and only one loss, including an incredible 25-0 record throughout the regular season and state playoffs; and

Whereas, the ladies from Pickens High School met those from Camden in the championship game of the state tournament, and with their family and friends cheering them on, the "Blue Flames" won two games by scores of 15-2 and 15-3, and ended the match with a dramatic 16-14 win, giving Pickens the Class AAA State Championship;

Whereas, the 2002 Pickens Varsity Girls Volleyball Team made up of disciplined student-athletes including Carolyn Rivers, Lauren Blackwell, Karey Kelley, Augusta Bryant, Erin Owens, Rebecca Wilson, Sarah Javdan-Inalloo, Erin Winchester, Kathryn Clayton, Magen Peterson, Nikki Anthony, Megan Hendricks, Katie Bridges, and Jessica Gravely; the players were led by Head Coach Peggy Anthony and Assistant Coaches Andrea Chapman and Janet Phillips, with support and encouragement from Athletic Director Steve Corn, managers Josh Childress, Josh Talley, and Luke Baker, and Principal Marion Lawson; and
