A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE SENATE UPON THE DEATH OF JOHN D. "JACK" PATTERSON OF MCCORMICK COUNTY, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 27, 2002, AND TO CONVEY DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the Senate were deeply saddened by the death of John D. "Jack" Patterson of McCormick on November 27, 2002, at the age of eighty-four; and

Whereas, Mr. Patterson was born on August 20, 1918, in McCormick and was the son of James Oscar and Azilee Harmon Patterson. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Army's fifty-eighth Armored Division, which participated in the Normandy Invasion. Mr. Patterson was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 19; and

Whereas, Mr. Patterson retired from the South Carolina Employment Security Commission after thirty-nine years of dedicated service and commitment to serving the people of South Carolina; and

Whereas, Mr. Patterson was a member of the McCormick First Baptist Church where he served as chairman of the board of Deacons and was director of Sunday school for many years; and

Whereas, the Senate extends its deepest sympathy to the family and many friends of John D. "Jack" Patterson. He is survived by his wife, Miriam Edmunds Patterson; a sister, Jewell P. McGrath; a brother, Cecil Patterson; three daughters and sons-in-law, Rosemary and Sonny Carson, Ginger and Tony Dukes, and Jackie and Ken Brown; eight grandchildren, Ward Carson, Kelly Carson, Connor Carson, Andrew Dukes, Rhett Dukes, Allen Brown, Leland Brown, and Katherine Brown; and one great-grandson, Will Carson. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of John D. "Jack" Patterson of McCormick Wednesday, November 27, 2002, and convey deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. John D. "Jack" Patterson of McCormick.
