 A HOUSE RESOLUTION TO RECOGNIZE THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE
 HONORABLE GEORGE ALBERT THOMY OF LAKE CITY, AND TO THE EXTEND THE SINCERE
 GRATITUDE OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO JUDGE THOMY FOR FIFTY
 YEARS OF UNWAVERING COMMITMENT AND GENEROUS SERVICE TO THE PRACTICE OF LAW,
 THE CITY OF LAKE CITY, AND THE COURT SYSTEM AS HE RECEIVES THE NIFTY FIFTY
 AWARD.

TO RECOGNIZE THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE HONORABLE GEORGE ALBERT THOMY OF LAKE CITY, AND TO THE EXTEND THE SINCERE GRATITUDE OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO JUDGE THOMY FOR FIFTY YEARS OF UNWAVERING COMMITMENT AND GENEROUS SERVICE TO THE PRACTICE OF LAW, THE CITY OF LAKE CITY, AND THE COURT SYSTEM AS HE RECEIVES THE NIFTY FIFTY AWARD.

Whereas, George Albert Thomy was born June 2, 1915, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, to Najib and Careemy Thomy; and

Whereas, Judge Thomy received his education from The Citadel and the University of South Carolina School of Law and was admitted to practice law in South Carolina in 1952; and

Whereas, his professional career commenced in Lake City in 1952 when he began practicing law as a sole practitioner and opened his law practice, Nettles, Thomy, and Smith; and

Whereas, Judge Thomy was elected the first municipal judge of Lake City on August 2, 1976, a position in which he compassionately, conscientiously, and consistently served until he retired in 1992; and

Whereas, a man about town, Judge Thomy was a member of the Lake City Council, served as president of Stock Investments and chairman of the Industrial Loan and Development Commission of South Carolina, and was named Lake City Young Man of the Year, Lake City Man of the Year, and was included in the Young Men of South Carolina; and

Whereas, Judge Thomy additionally found time for his community by being active in the American Legion, South Carolina Jaycees, Association of Trial Lawyers, Roman Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Lions Club, Rotary Club, and several Bar Associations, as well as being a decorated First Lieutenant when he was in the United States Army from 1942 until 1945. Judge Thomy still writes a weekly column for the local newspaper; and

Whereas, while advancing professionally and personally, Judge Thomy enjoyed a fulfilling family life with his wife, Caronell Irene Jordan, and his three children, James J. Thomy, Gwendolyn Thomy Daniel, and Gregory G. Thomy; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are pleased to recognize Judge Thomy upon the occasion of his receiving the Nifty Fifty Award for his fifty years of dedicated service to the practice of law. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives recognize the accomplishments and contributions of the Honorable George Albert Thomy of Lake City, and extend their sincere gratitude to Judge Thomy for fifty years of unwavering commitment and generous service to the practice of law, the city of Lake City, and the court system as he receives the Nifty Fifty Award.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Honorable George Albert Thomy of Lake City.
